What Can Chaplains Do?

  • OFFICIANT WEDDINGS: The Chaplain is available to assist with weddings. When properly credentialed, the Chaplain is available to conduct weddings.

  • SPIRITUAL GUIDANCE: The Chaplain is available to help individuals and their families with their spiritual needs.

  • ASSISTANCE IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS: In times of crises such as hospitalization, injury, or death, the Chaplain will help and provide assistance to veterans and their families.

  • OFFICIANT /ASSISTING AT FUNERALS: The Chaplain is available to assist families with funeral arrangements and to officiate at the service or assist the family minister. 

  • COUNSELING: The Chaplain is available to provide pastoral care and counsel and when necessary to help veterans and their families find appropriate resources for dealing with such issues as post-traumatic stress disorder, substance abuse, or other critical incident stress management problems.

  • VISITATION: Visitation with veterans and their families to provide comfort and encouragement is an important function of the Chaplain.

  • ATTENDING FUNCTIONS: The Chaplain may be called upon to represent the Post at official functions or public meetings, and asked to give invocations, dedicatory prayers, or benedictions.

What Are Chaplains?

​Chaplains hold a vital place within the World. They enter the lives of suffering people during times of serious emotional, physical, and spiritual crisis. They are caring caregivers that stand beside those who are suffering, offering prayer, encouragement, and if needed spiritual direction. Often, this includes ministry to entire families.

Qualified chaplains are deeply committed to integrity. Whether in hospice care, hospitals, institutional correctional chaplaincy, in fire, police, and emergency roles or campus chaplaincy and nursing homes, 

The following job descriptions explain and show the wide variety of ways  you can serve as a Chaplain:

PUBLIC SAFETY CHAPLAINCY:  is a truly interesting and rewarding role. As a public safety chaplain you would work within law enforcement agencies such as police, fire and sheriff’ departments.as

HOSPICE CARE CHAPLAINS:  hospice care ministry is a very special chaplaincy. It is very important that Hospice Care Chaplains learn to develop their faith based skills when working with those who are dying and their families. He/She should know how to effectively communicate with those who are dying as a Hospice Care Chaplain.

PRISON CHAPLAINS: Prison chaplains needs to have an ability to: (A) Provide references for the scriptural mandate for prison ministry. (B) Explain why believers should be involved in prison ministry. (C) Articulate the spiritual goals of jail and prison ministry. (D) Summarize what the Gospel has to offer prison inmates.

CHRISTIAN CHAPLAINS: are caring men and women of God that demonstrate God’s love for a hurting world by sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. They strives for excellence in supporting the special men and women intent on ministering God’s unfailing love to a hurting world.

DISASTER RELIEF CHAPLAINS: As a disaster relief chaplain it’s essential that you embody an ability to communicate through the use of proper training.

NURSING HOME CHAPLAINS: Nursing home chaplaincy is a ministry working with elderly people who are often confused, depressed and in many cases dying. Nursing home chaplains have to be dedicated, understanding, and have the love for people in their hearts to reach out to those who are coming to the end of their lives.

DOMESTIC ABUSE CHAPLAIN: needs a working knowledge of domestic violence skills training, in order to help members of their ministries, synagogues, churches and communities.
